1 Month in: French & Other Things I've Learned

Things I learned my first month living in France

October 2015

1) THAT PRETTY MEDIEVAL BUILDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CANAL USED TO BE A PRISON

Where should we meet?

At the prison.

2) BE WEARY OF HOST MOMS WITH CURATED INSTAGRAM PROFILES

Three weeks in: I've left my host-family and moved into an AirBnB. Take Two as an au pair is scheduled for January 1st 2016.

3) I AM NOT IMMUNE TO THE EFFECTS OF BINGE DRINKING

I've started drinking for the first time in my life. Sorry for all the vomit, Annecy.

Génépi?

4) I CAN HIKE

La Tournette- check

Le Parmelan- check

5) I CAN MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE MY OWN AGE

From all over the world.

I can also make "not-friends" with people my own age from all over the world.

6) I HATE THE GAME NEVER HAVE I EVER

Because it seems like never have I ever done anything.

7) THINGS THE IRISH SAY

Class. Grand. Your one. Your man.

8) JE SUIS D'ACCORD MEANS I AGREE NOT I'M OK

How did I not learn this in high school? If you want to say, "I'm OK" - just say "Ça va."

I also poured salad dressing in my café crème; I didn't quite catch what the waitress said when she brought me vinaigrette for my upcoming omelette's side salad.

And I was placed in the "advanced" class at our au pair French school.

9) KIND OF HOW TO DRIVE A STICK-SHIFT

Not really though.

10) I LOVE ANNECY

It might be hard to leave.
